Bitcoin Quantum Resistance Proposals BIP-360 and SHRINCS

A proposal for Bitcoin (BTC) to counter quantum computers has been introduced, which includes BIP-360 to reduce the long-term exposure of public keys and the hash-based signature method SHRINCS. BIP-360 introduces a new Bitcoin output format called Pay-to-Merkle-Root (P2MR), focusing on lowering the risk of public key exposure. However, this proposal does not prevent all quantum attacks. SHRINCS is a hash-based signature method proposed by Blockstream, based on the pre-image resistance of SHA-256, similar to Bitcoin's proof of work. SHRINCS is designed as a state-based signature of 324 bytes and includes a static backup method for asset recovery. Currently, BIP-360 is in 'Draft' status and has not yet been officially adopted or reviewed. The point at which quantum computers pose a threat to Bitcoin security is uncertain, and the transition of technology is complex due to various intertwined factors. This discussion emphasizes the security transition of wallets and networks over price.
