Column launches four new financial products

What if a single platform could replace part of the stack of providers used by fintechs? William Hockey, co-founder of Column and former co-founder of Plaid, announced on Wednesday the simultaneous launch of four new products.

The stated ambition is to enable tech companies to build end-to-end financial services without having to multiply intermediaries.

We started @column with the insane idea to rebuild every component of the financial system from scratch. Today, I think we've finally completed that build.

The new offerings cover four areas: infrastructure for stablecoins, full-stack card issuance, global banking, and multi-currency accounts. The entire setup relies directly on Column's banking platform, with integration designed to limit reliance on external providers.

Stablecoins: USDC and USDT interoperable 24/7 with the dollar

The most talked-about component concerns stablecoins. Column claims to make USDC and USDT fully interoperable with the US dollar and all payment rails, both domestic and international, 24 hours a day and instantly.

BREAKING: @column, the FDIC-insured bank behind Brex and Slash, has built stablecoins directly into its banking core.

Stablecoin addresses and bank accounts live on the same ledger, which prevents clients from having to pre-fund their balances with an external orchestrator.

USDC (with a market cap of $73.56 billion) and USDT ($183.29 billion) are accessible on Ethereum, Solana, and other networks, with key management, liquidity, and compliance abstracted on the client side. Column already claims several tens of billions of dollars in annualized volume on this single stablecoin product.

Cards, global banking, and multi-currency accounts on the same platform

Column has also developed its own card processing system. The goal is to consolidate banking, payment processing, and the funds necessary to operate a card program into a single integration.

The same infrastructure can thus handle Visa or Mastercard cards, whether debit, credit, or backed by stablecoins.

The "global banking" component allows verified clients worldwide to open accounts in dollars or local currency. Individually numbered multi-currency accounts connect to SEPA Instant and other international instant payment systems, a point that will particularly interest European and French fintechs looking to offer cross-border flows.

Why this worries so many crypto and fintech projects

The question came from VC Santiago R Santos, who posted on X: "How many crypto projects and fintechs died today?".

Column already claims top clients like Ramp, Brex, Bilt, Mercury, Slash, or Kapital, with billions of dollars processed on each product.

A significant portion of crypto and fintech startups today merely assemble existing components: a partner bank, a payment orchestrator, a card issuer, a stablecoin/fiat conversion provider. Column now offers the entire package under a single API contract. Projects that only add a cosmetic layer over these components risk seeing their value proposition evaporate.
