Charles Schwab Launches Bitcoin and Ethereum Trading for 40 Million Customers
Charles Schwab has completed the full rollout of Schwab Crypto, allowing U.S. customers to request direct trading in Bitcoin and Ethereum. Customers can buy and sell crypto via Schwab.com, the mobile app, and the thinkorswim trading platform. The crypto account is linked to a regular investment account but is not available in New York, Louisiana, and other excluded areas. Schwab charges 0.75 percent per transaction, and customers can place market and limit orders. The company has approximately 40.3 million active investment accounts, but not all accounts are eligible for crypto trading. Only customers with an eligible account in supported areas can submit requests. Crypto is not covered by standard banking protections and is held by Charles Schwab Premier Bank with Paxos for custody and transactions. The feature for sending and receiving crypto is being rolled out in phases.
