China to Implement Helium Export Ban from 2026
The Ministry of Commerce and the General Administration of Customs of China announced that starting from July 10, 2026, there will be a temporary ban on the export of helium (Customs Commodity Code: 2804290010). Helium is a crucial strategic material for the manufacturing of advanced semiconductors, AI chips, and HBM storage. This move comes against the backdrop of a tightening global supply and geopolitical factors affecting major production areas, which will further restrict the circulation supply in the international market, potentially driving up global helium prices and costs in the semiconductor supply chain, while prioritizing the supply of strategic resources domestically.
