De-mining of the village of Grakovo completed in Kharkiv region
In the Kharkiv region, the de-mining of the village of Grakovo has been completed, funded through the UNITED24 platform as part of the "Step by Step" initiative. Minister of Economy and Environment Oleksandr Kravchenko presented certificates to the head of the local community during a working visit. The de-mining agreement was signed at the end of 2025. The clearance of 58 hectares took more than six months, during which sappers removed about 200 mines and over 600 explosive devices. Kravchenko noted that Kharkiv region leads in the pace of humanitarian de-mining, which allowed for the first time the implementation of a project to clear an entire settlement, 90% of which was contaminated. Grakovo is now safe for residents, which is an important step for the return of people and the development of community economies. The meeting in the Kharkiv region also discussed the issue of forest fires, with approximately 406,000 hectares of forests currently needing inspection. In Ukraine, after de-mining, areas larger than Odesa region have been returned to circulation, totaling over 40,700 square kilometers of de-occupied land.
