Divergent Interpretations on Dollar Weakness
Market interpretations regarding the entry into a dollar weakness phase are diverging. While there is a noticeable trend of dollar selling, some argue that it is premature to conclude this as a long-term trend change. The market has begun to bet on dollar weakness, but there is debate over whether this is a matter of trust in U.S. fiscal and monetary policy or merely a short-term position adjustment. The focus is on the 'dollar value erosion' trade, which implies a flow of buying assets like gold and Bitcoin (BTC) while selling dollars, based on the judgment that fiscal deficits and government debt can lower currency value. Betting on dollar weakness leads to a perspective that considers both traditional safe assets and digital assets; however, there are concerns that even if price movements and capital inflows appear in the same direction, it is difficult to interpret this as a long-term change in currency trust. The U.S. Treasury's buyback is a measure to bolster Treasury bond circulation, which could impact long-term interest rates and dollar liquidity. However, some view the current dollar weakness debate as more of a psychological and position adjustment issue rather than a fundamental strength change. While there is an interpretation that dollar weakness has led to purchases of BTC and gold, further confirmation is needed regarding its sustainability. This debate reflects differing interpretations of the reasons behind dollar weakness.
