2026 Fortune Global 500: Amazon Tops for the First Time, Alphabet Becomes Most Profitable Company
The 2026 Fortune Global 500 list was released on July 28, with the total revenue of the listed companies amounting to approximately $43.1 trillion, a year-on-year increase of about 3.2%. Amazon has topped the list for the first time, ending Walmart's record of leading for twelve consecutive years, while State Grid ranked third. Alphabet claimed the title of the most profitable company globally with a net profit of $132.17 billion, followed by Nvidia in second place, and TSMC as the only Chinese company in the top ten of the profit rankings. A total of 141 companies from the United States made the list, while China (including Taiwan) had 122 companies, and Japan had 40. The total revenue of Chinese companies on the list was approximately $10.4 trillion, with an average profit of $4.5 billion, about 40% of the average profit of U.S. companies ($11.24 billion). JD.com (ranked 41st) is the highest-ranked private company from mainland China, followed by Alibaba (56th), Tencent (97th, entering the top 100 for the first time), Pinduoduo (255th), and Meituan (311th), all of which saw improvements in their rankings. In the high-tech sector, 38 listed companies had an average profit of $21.98 billion. Nvidia's ranking jumped 38 places to 28th, TSMC rose 44 places to 82nd, SK Hynix ranked 210th, and Micron Technology and AMD returned to the list after several years. The automotive industry saw increased differentiation, with BYD ranking 91st and CATL significantly rising 43 places to 260th, while Chery Automobile made the list for the first time as a publicly listed company. The largest increase in ranking was seen by Wistron, which jumped 298 places to 198th.
