Emin Gün Sirer Says AI Could Identify Vulnerabilities in XRP Ledger
Avalanche founder Emin Gün Sirer stated that artificial intelligence could uncover software vulnerabilities in blockchain networks like the XRP Ledger that have not yet been detected. Sirer argued that the cryptocurrency sector should focus on the risk of AI finding weaknesses in the software layer rather than the likelihood of current encryption methods being broken. He expressed that the exploitation of system-level errors by AI could arise before common cryptographic methods like ECDSA become invalid. He warned that such vulnerabilities could lead to billions of dollars in losses for attackers. XRP Ledger developers released an urgent software update on September 25. The protocol developers initially did not share the source code related to the security fixes. Sirer noted that it would be misleading to think that there are no vulnerabilities in the code of high-value networks that AI could more easily find. Discussions about artificial intelligence and cryptography have grown recently. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin suggested that AI-assisted discoveries could challenge cryptographic assumptions. Sirer believes that the cryptocurrency community should prioritize addressing existing software vulnerabilities.
