Financial Commission Reviews Safeguards Following Naver-Dunamu Merger
The Financial Services Commission has announced that it is reviewing safeguards to ensure the public interest and neutrality of virtual asset exchanges in relation to concerns about market monopolization stemming from the merger between Naver Financial and Dunamu. According to a written response from Lee Kang-il, a member of the Democratic Party, during the National Assembly audit on the 22nd, the Financial Commission stated that the Fair Trade Commission is closely examining whether the merger between Naver and Dunamu would restrict competition. Additionally, it was mentioned that safeguards to protect the public interest and neutrality of exchanges are also being considered in the proposed 'Digital Asset Act.' Lee raised questions about measures to prevent market monopolization by specific companies or shareholders, stating that the merger would result in overwhelming market dominance. The Financial Commission also revealed plans to review the range of products that can be handled in the digital asset market during the legislative process of the Digital Asset Act. Lee inquired about the timeline for allowing token securities, real asset-linked assets, digital asset derivatives, and stablecoins, to which the Financial Commission responded that it would consider the diversity of products in its review.
