Romania produces up to 3 million tons of oil per year, yet fuel prices remain higher than in neighboring countries. About 60% of the cost of fuel consists of taxes. A liter of gasoline in Romania costs €1.80, while in Bulgaria it is €1.53, in Hungary €1.61, in Serbia €1.69, and in Moldova €1.50. Diesel fuel costs €2.03 in Romania, compared to €1.74 in Bulgaria, €1.86 in Hungary, €1.94 in Serbia, and €1.59 in Moldova. Expert Evgenia Gushilova noted that domestic production does not meet the country's needs, which affects the cost price. High fuel prices contribute to inflation, which reached 8.2% in July, the highest rate in the EU. Over the year, diesel prices increased by 30.7%, while gasoline rose by 23.15%.
