Granola Unveils Atomic Swap Order Book on Cashu
Granola has unveiled a proof of concept for a decentralized order book that coordinates atomic swaps on Cashu. This testnet experiment uses Nostr as the order and coordination channel without relying on centralized exchanges or separate custodians. Granola describes this project as a decentralized trading layer on Cashu, where Nostr handles public orders and private adjustments, while Cashu mint is responsible for issuing and settling electronic cash. Transactions are conducted by bundling both trading legs with the same hash, and participants claim trades through pre-images. The public implementation operates as a testnet wallet in the browser, prohibiting the use of real funds. The wallet can mint or receive Testnut sat and USD tokens, displaying balances, as well as the buy and sell orders and spreads of the SAT/USD public order book. Granola's settlement design is predicated on Cashu NUT-14 HTLC and NUT-07 token state verification, with HTLC establishing asset claim and refund pathways through hash and time conditions. Granola is an experiment aimed at reducing dependence on centralized order book operators, though it is not an exchange that eliminates all trust costs. Nostr is utilized as a messaging layer for price discovery and order coordination, attempting to decentralize various functions of an exchange. Current market reactions are centered around the developer community, and Granola has been introduced as a Cashu-based project.
