Jack Dorsey Opposes AI Safety Rules That Solidify Big Tech's Advantage

By: x.com|2026/09/15 00:42:34

Jack Dorsey supports the open release of AI models, independent evaluations, and scrutiny of dangerous capabilities. He believes that open-weight models allow independent researchers to replicate results, identify issues, and develop protective measures. He opposes industry-wide restrictions on computing power, training operations, and model development negotiated by current leading laboratories, arguing that this could make existing leading companies the only capable participants and exclude entities that could identify problems or build alternatives. Dorsey stated that limiting the release of general models should be a last resort, implemented only when there is independently verifiable evidence that the release would significantly increase catastrophic risks that cannot be mitigated by narrower measures; he hopes that users can run and control AI tools on their own devices.
