Japanese Police Arrest Two Suspects Posing as Police Officers in Fraud Case Involving Approximately 81 Million Yen in Cryptocurrency
The Japanese police have arrested 31-year-old Sato Okayama and 38-year-old Mitsuhiko Minazawa, who are suspected of participating in a fraud scheme by posing as police officers. The gang impersonated the Osaka Prefectural Police and falsely informed a woman in her 40s that her bank card was involved in a scam and money laundering amounting to 600 billion yen, demanding her to "prove her innocence" and defrauding her of approximately 81 million yen (about 515,000 USD) in cryptocurrency. The police stated that the fraud gang's base is suspected to be located in Cambodia, with known losses totaling approximately 240 million yen (about 1.526 million USD), and the mastermind is likely to be of Chinese nationality.
