Milk Processing in Ukraine Increased by 6% in the First Half of 2026
In the first half of 2026, the volume of milk processing in Ukraine increased by 6% compared to the same period in 2025. In 2025, 3.6 million tons of milk were processed, up from 3.2 million tons in 2021. Vadim Chagarovsky, head of the Union of Dairy Enterprises of Ukraine, noted that the growth rate could accelerate by the end of the year due to increased milk production on farms. This allows for the processing of surplus milk into exportable products. The domestic market is also supported by promotions from retail chains, where some companies sell up to 60% of their products through discounts. However, the industry faces challenges, including the shadow market and counterfeit products. People's Deputy Bohdan Kytzak pointed out systemic cases of food fraud related to the moratorium on inspections and the allowance for the sale of products with non-state language. There is also a lack of accountability among enterprises that have operational permits for dairy production. The Verkhovna Rada is working on legislative changes to combat the shadow market and revise the rules for importing humanitarian aid.
