Quantum Attacks on Bitcoin and Ethereum Require Less Than Half the Computational Power

Researchers from institutions such as the Ethereum Foundation, Theta Labs, and StarkWare have published a new paper indicating that the estimated computational power required for future quantum attacks on Bitcoin and Ethereum has decreased by more than half compared to the benchmark data released by Google in March. The newly designed quantum circuit utilizes approximately 1,151 logical qubits and 1.3 million Toffoli gates, with a combined score of about 1.5 billion, significantly lower than Google's previous estimate of around 3 billion. The study optimized the point addition operations repeatedly executed in Shor's algorithm, theoretically enabling sufficiently powerful quantum computers to derive private keys from public keys and forge transactions.
