Solana Proposes Geographic Leader Scheduling to Reduce Latency

By: www.newsbtc.com|10/26/2026 20:00:00

Solana is exploring a geo-aware leader schedule to enhance validator handovers, potentially reducing delays. The study of SIMD-0675 suggests that arranging validators geographically closer can decrease information travel time. This approach does not increase production slots for specific validators but reorders their existing allocation. Analysis of 6,250 synthetic networks based on 124 validator locations indicates an average handover delay reduction of approximately 29 milliseconds in certain configurations. However, clustering leaders by location may lead to longer concentration in specific regions and incentivize misreporting of validator geography. The research highlights the trade-offs between latency reduction and maintaining network resilience, emphasizing the need for a balance between speed and geographical distribution.
