Survey Shows Limited Impact of 'Digital Gold' Narrative on Americans, Sense of Control More Appealing
A survey conducted by the Bitcoin Policy Institute (BPI) reveals that the narrative of "digital gold" has limited persuasive power among ordinary Americans, with respondents expressing confusion and ranking it at the bottom in a national test. In contrast, information emphasizing a sense of control, past performance, and safety and convenience is more appealing, particularly allowing buyers to decide their investment amounts, even "just $10."
The study found that 52% of respondents belong to the "persuadable middle group." After presenting 19 pieces of information, the proportion of those completely uninterested dropped from 39% to 32%, while those very interested increased from 19% to 24%. Personal financial advisors, retirement planning experts, and friends and family who already own Bitcoin were deemed the most trusted information sources, while celebrities and influencers ranked at the bottom. The study suggests that exchanges and ETF providers should emphasize familiar interfaces and small allocations, rather than requiring users to adopt a particular currency philosophy.
