Unauthorized Access to Japan's Digital Agency Server, Personal Information of 246,000 Individuals May Have Been Leaked
The Digital Agency of Japan disclosed that its government solution service network was subjected to unauthorized access at the end of June. Attackers exploited vulnerabilities in the virtual private network to extract files on a large scale, potentially leaking personal information such as names, email addresses, and phone numbers of approximately 246,000 public officials and related individuals using the system. The Digital Agency stated that no improper use directly related to this incident has been discovered so far. Japan recorded 123 ransomware attacks in the first half of this year, marking a new high for a half-year period since government statistics began.
