On September 16, the U.S. House Financial Services Committee advanced the "2026 U.S. Reserve Modernization Act" with a vote of 28 in favor and 21 against. The bill aims to incorporate the strategic Bitcoin reserve established by former President Trump through an executive order into federal law, requiring the government to confiscate the Bitcoin earned and hold it for at least 20 years. The bill also mandates the public disclosure of reserve proof, acceptance of independent audits, and research into increasing Bitcoin holdings without raising taxes, government borrowing, or the federal deficit. The bill still needs to be passed by the full House and the Senate. Arkham Intelligence estimates that the U.S. government holds approximately 324,500 Bitcoins, valued at about $24.7 billion, but the exact scale has not been uniformly disclosed or confirmed by the government.
