WEEX Exclusive:Fed Hikes 25 bp, Pressuring Risk Assets as ZEC Rallies Toward $1,360 | WEEX TradFi Daily Brief (September 17, 2026)

By: WEEX|2026/09/17 06:00:00

Opening Summary

  1. The Fed votes 12–0 to raise the policy rate 25 bp to 3.75%–4.00%. Chair Walsh sounds hawkish and the dots point to another hike this year; the three major U.S. indexes close lower.
  2. Bitcoin oscillates between $75,000 and $76,500 as ETF outflows and a rise in 2-year yields cap risk appetite.
  3. ZEC approaches $1,400, up about 22% in 24 hours. Robinhood memes bounce after the selloff.
  4. The 10-year yield returns to about 5.02% and gold slips. Focus turns to October hike odds and housing/consumer earnings.

1 Crypto Highlights

1)Bitcoin and Ethereum Pressured by the 25 bp Hike, Trading $75,000–$76,500

The Fed raised the policy rate 25 basis points to 3.75%–4.00% by a 12–0 vote, the first hike since 2023. The dots show 16 of 18 officials expect at least one more hike this year. After the decision Bitcoin swung between about $75,000 and $76,500 and last traded near $75,600; Ethereum moved $2,370–$2,430 before slipping to about $2,376. The hike itself was largely priced; the pressure came from Walsh’s hawkish tone, a rise in 2-year yields and prior spot-ETF outflows. Tighter-liquidity expectations lowered risk appetite.

Futures: BTC / ETH

2)ZEC Makes Another High Near $1,400, Up About 22% in 24 Hours

Zcash (ZEC) advanced independently while majors were hit by the hike, peaking around $1,385–$1,394 and approaching $1,400, up about 22% over 24 hours. The privacy narrative, a split of defensive capital and prior momentum made ZEC one of the few leaders through the hike window. Price is now in a short-term overheated zone; if BTC stays capped by rates, swings at these levels will widen.

Spot: ZEC
Futures: ZEC

3)Robinhood Meme Sector Recovers After the Drop; CASHCAT Strengthens

Broker-chain meme tokens bounced from oversold levels after a stalled regulatory bill and the hike shock, with CASHCAT, BONER and MEME leading the repair. The bounce looks more like short covering and rotation than a fundamental improvement. If ETF outflows and rate pricing keep tightening, the rebound may not last.
Watchlist: CASHCAT, BONER, MEME
Spot: CASHCAT / BONER / MEME1
Futures: CASHCAT / MEMEROBINHOOD

2 Market Highlights

1)Dow Slumps After the Hike as Energy and Financials Drag

The Fed raised the policy rate 25 basis points on September 16 ET. In the press conference Walsh stressed that inflation is still high and financial conditions are not tight enough. The dots show most officials expect another hike this year. The 2-year yield rose about 7 basis points and the 10-year returned to about 5.02%. The Dow closed down 1.21% at 51,462, the S&P 500 fell 0.45% to 7,552 and the Nasdaq was nearly unchanged. Energy dropped about 3% and financials also weakened as markets began to trade a “higher for longer” path.
Watchlist: SPY, XLE
Spot: SPY
Futures: SPY / XLE

2)Optical Modules Relatively Resilient; Lumentum (LITE) Rises About 9.6%

In a post-hike selloff, information technology eked out a gain of about 0.1%, and Lumentum (LITE) rose about 9.6% as a session standout. AI data-center optical connectivity is still being treated as a structural hedge against the rate shock, with capital rotating from long-duration software into hardware infrastructure. Durability still depends on whether capex can absorb higher funding costs.
Watchlist: LITE
Spot: LITE
Futures: LITE

3)Intel (INTC) Rises About 4% as Chip Manufacturing Attracts Inflows

Intel (INTC) rose about 4.0% on September 16 ET and AMD gained about 1.7%. Reports of capacity-cooperation talks with a memory giant, plus a roughly 0.6% gain in the semiconductor index, supported the move. Even as the hike compressed valuations, a manufacturing and foundry repair trade still drew relative flows.
Watchlist: INTC, AMD
Spot: INTC / AMD
Futures: INTC / AMD

4)Gold Slips as the 10-Year Yield Returns to 5%

Spot gold fell about 0.7% to around $4,264 on September 16 ET, briefly rallying after the decision before giving it back. A stronger dollar and higher real rates weakened safe-haven demand. The 10-year yield again cleared 5%, a direct headwind for non-yielding assets.

Spot: GOLD
Futures: GOLD
