XRP Ledger 3.3.0 Update Reduces Memory Usage by 23%

The memory usage of nodes operating on the XRP Ledger network has decreased by up to 23% following the release of version xrpld 3.3.0. Valentin Balaschenko from the RippleX team explained the reasons for this decline in an official blog post. Network operators observed increased memory consumption on their validators in the summer of 2025. The investigation revealed that the issue was not due to a memory leak, but rather due to the memory allocation mechanism holding onto memory released by the application. A fix for this issue was implemented in the xrpld 3.3.0 version. Hussein Zangana noted that this improvement is beneficial considering the current RAM costs. Additionally, developers stated that a detected memory regression was resolved within a few weeks, but this did not create a noticeable impact for operators. Operators questioned why memory did not return after expired records were cleaned up. The latest explanation indicated that this appearance arose because the memory allocated by the nodes does not immediately return at the system level. Zangana, the community director of the XRP Ledger Foundation, reported that the savings rate varied between 13% and 23%. The fixCleanup change in the network was activated on November 4, 2026, and it was stated that this step strengthened the XRP protocol. The new package provides additional fixes, including ensuring that the VaultClawback transaction rejects fraudulent account holders.
