Zhao Changpeng Raises Suspicions of Hackers Acquiring Hardware Wallet Vendor
Binance co-founder Zhao Changpeng (CZ) has raised suspicions that hackers may have acquired a hardware wallet vendor in connection with a digital asset theft incident worth approximately $86 million. On the 11th, CZ cited a post on X claiming that a data theft device was inserted into the hardware wallets, alleging that the hackers acquired the vendor and had them sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) to keep quiet. This incident became known after Southeast Asian users who purchased products from CryptoViliss, a vendor of French hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger, reported fund outflows. Hardware wallets are known as devices that securely store private keys, but there are concerns that the devices may have been tampered with. On-chain analyst Specter stated that suspicious fund movements tracked on the BTC, ETH, and TRX networks suggest that the estimated damage exceeds $86 million. The co-founder of CryptoViliss stated that the company was acquired this year and that the existing management no longer had access to the customer database after the acquisition. Ledger has requested CryptoViliss to halt product sales and shipments.
