JPYC Payments at Convenience Stores, Participants to Speak
HashPort announced on the 18th the speakers for the business conference "AI On-Chain Finance Summit," co-hosted with KDDI, au Coincheck Digital Assets, and the WebX Executive Committee on October 1. In addition to those who have tried stablecoin payments at convenience store registers, executives responsible for digital strategies at mega banks and payment officers from major card companies will also be present.
The venue will be KDDI's Takanawa headquarters. Participation is free, and pre-registration is required. A total of 20 speakers will take the stage, including a closing session.
In the initial session, there will be a review of the demonstration conducted on August 6 at the Lawson Takanawa Gateway City store. Previously, using stablecoins at retail required dedicated payment terminals or displaying QR codes. In this demonstration, payments in the yen-denominated stablecoin JPYC were completed simply by scanning a barcode displayed on a smartphone at the POS register.
Transition to Implementation Stage as Background
The framework for issuing domestic stablecoins was established by the revised Payment Services Act that came into effect in June 2023. Many believe that the focus of discussions has shifted from whether issuance is possible to how it can be used in payment and remittance scenarios. The summit will be held as a platform to bring together various points of discussion across the industry, considering this situation.
Sessions addressing coexistence with card businesses and the use of stablecoins in inter-company payments and overseas remittances will feature representatives from major card companies, mega banks, and domestic issuers. Keynotes will cover KDDI's vision and HashPort's wallet development platform, with closing remarks by Representative Hiroshi Taira from the Liberal Democratic Party.
