Binance Founder Zhao Changpeng Clarifies: Mentioning SpaceX Equity Is Not a Threat to Musk
In the cryptocurrency community (120btc.CoM): On October 31 at 14:22 Beijing time, Binance co-founder Zhao Changpeng (CZ) publicly refuted rumors on social media platform X, clearly stating that the previous mention of the platform's holdings in SpaceX equity (stock code SPCX) was not intended to exert capital pressure on Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Zhao Changpeng directly pointed out in his post, "I don't make threats," and clarified that he has never made any statements about "preparing to sell SPCX stocks."
This clarification stemmed from a deep analysis published by cryptocurrency opinion leader TuanX (@TuanNguyen_6789) at 10:41 AM Beijing time. This KOL previously cited Zhao Changpeng's interactions with Musk, commenting that Zhao rarely uses capital strength to threaten or pressure others. However, at a critical moment when the trading platform faced severe public opinion pressure, certain excessive jokes from the outside clearly crossed Zhao Changpeng's tolerance boundary, even if the other party is a highly respected top billionaire. In response, Zhao Changpeng made it clear that while such analyses were supportive of the team, they had obviously led to serious over-interpretations in a negative dimension.
Debunking FTX Comparisons and Liquidity Rumors
To clarify the origins of this controversy, Zhao Changpeng elaborated on his deeper motivations for proactively disclosing the background of SpaceX assets. At that time, some voices in the discussion thread deliberately compared Binance's recent security issues with the FTX bankruptcy collapse of 2022, which could easily lead to erroneous speculations about the platform facing severe cash flow breaks or asset liquidation.
To block the misinterpretation of the platform's solvency by false rumors, Zhao Changpeng pointed out that the mention of this holding was mainly based on two considerations:
Disproving rumors of asset liquidity exhaustion: External speculations about the platform facing redemption difficulties are completely disconnected from the basic facts; the platform's balance sheet is much broader than a single cryptocurrency chain exposure.
Confirming cross-market asset strength: To prove that the platform has already established a solid reserve of diversified assets in traditional core sectors such as cutting-edge hard technology, beyond native cryptocurrency assets, and that commercial aerospace is precisely an area of expertise for Musk.
Long-term Confidence in the Value of Aerospace Unicorns
From a business logic perspective, Zhao Changpeng further analyzed the holding size and corporate valuation, clarifying that this asset could never be turned into a bargaining chip. He pointed out that refusing to use financial threats is one of his core principles in business, which he has systematically elaborated in his personal writings. In terms of objective equity proportion, the SPCX position on Binance's books is like "a drop in the ocean" in the vast total valuation of SpaceX, and in objective terms, it cannot form any substantial constraints on the company's control or operational decisions. The notion of maliciously forcing a takeover lacks basic feasibility in real business terms.
At the same time, Zhao Changpeng positively evaluated the underlying business logic of this investment, stating that SPCX is one of the equity assets he recognizes the most and holds long-term value for over a considerable period. He urged the industry community and external observers not to misinterpret normal asset disclosures as commercial opposition, nor to deliberately provoke opposing sentiments between capital camps. Zhao Changpeng humorously concluded that the unexpected matters he currently needs to follow up and coordinate are already heavy enough, and there is no need to add unnecessary talk about unfounded off-market games.
