BingX Executive Claims Wealthy Investors Have Longer Bitcoin Holding Periods
BingX Chief Strategy Officer Kevin Lee stated at the Token2049 conference in Singapore that wealthy "old money" investors have a longer holding period for Bitcoin compared to many crypto-native traders. He has interacted with numerous "old money" clients seeking alternative investments, claiming their "diamond hands" are stronger than anyone else's. Lee pointed out that Bitcoin has grown large enough that affluent investors are increasingly viewing it as a tool for portfolio diversification rather than expecting short-term surges. He believes that wealthy investors represent an underdeveloped source of crypto capital, and their buy-and-hold strategy could make Bitcoin a diversification tool for more investors. He mentioned that some investors allocate 5% to gold and another 5% to Bitcoin, rather than pursuing quick short-term returns. A CoinShares survey shows that long-term appreciation and diversification are the primary reasons for investing in crypto assets, with 80% of digital asset investors holding Bitcoin. However, crypto assets are still far from becoming a standard allocation for wealthy families. A survey by JPMorgan revealed that 89% of family offices have no exposure to crypto assets, with an average allocation to crypto and digital assets of only 0.4%, and only 17% of respondents consider it a key investment theme.

No sale has been confirmed. On October 8, 2026, US government-linked wallets moved 12,267 BTC, worth about $1.01 billion, out of a wallet holding funds seized in the 2016 Bitfinex hack, to new unlabeled addresses with no exchange deposit recorded. On-chain data shows movement, not intent, and no US agency has explained the transfers.
