Birch Hill Raises 4 Million USD to Put Farm and Apartment Loans Onchain

Birch Hill, a New York startup founded by Wall Street alumni, has raised 4 million USD in a seed round led by Multicoin Capital, bringing its total funding to 6.5 million USD. The firm aims to put American apartment, farm, and energy loans on public blockchains. CEO Bhavin Vaid, a former Goldman Sachs analyst, and COO Connor Flanagan, a former BlackRock employee, lead the company. Birch Hill operates in three divisions: Vaults, which curates onchain lending protocols; Strategies, which builds onchain credit products; and Enterprise, which has applied for broker-dealer membership with FINRA. Vaid stated that loan originators need new capital sources while onchain lenders require trustworthy credit. The firm plans to securitize pools of U.S. loans within the regulatory framework and has engaged with the SEC's Crypto Task Force. The funding will support an eight-person team, including hires from Yearn and Gauntlet. Multicoin's Shayon Sengupta noted that private credit presents a clear opportunity for new financial infrastructure onchain. This funding round coincides with increasing regulatory interest in onchain finance, as the SEC proposed Regulation Crypto Assets in August.
