Bitcoin Collectors Appeal to OpenSea for Trading Ordinals and Runes

By: bithub.pl|10/31/2026 18:47:49

OpenSea is developing a mobile application supporting over 25 blockchains, while supporters of Ordinals and Runes are seeking a place for assets from the Bitcoin network. A top influencer in this market segment, Leonidas, has made a public appeal for their addition. As of October 31, Bitcoin is still not listed among the supported networks.

Top Influencer Appeals for Ordinals and Runes on OpenSea

The posts date back to October 21 and 22. Leonidas encourages the community to express interest in integration and subsequently directed a request to OpenSea to launch support for Ordinals and Runes.

Hi @opensea,

Please add support for Ordinals and Runes.

Sincerely,

"If you want Ordinals, which I know many of you do, please continue just letting us know, being loud... that very much directly informs our product roadmap"

The appeals included graphics showing what the presence of Bitcoin collections on the platform could look like. Among them were Runestone, Bitcoin Puppets, and NodeMonkes. One of the illustrations even contained a slogan suggesting that trading was already operational (which is not true).

Over 25 Blockchains in the App. Bitcoin Missing from the List

OpenSea announced the launch of the mobile application on October 20. The versions for iOS and Android allow trading tokens and collectibles on over 25 blockchains. Users can also browse assets from multiple wallets and observe transactions by others.

According to the platform's announcement, it charges a 0.5% fee on token trades and 1% on collectible purchases within the app. Network fees may be charged separately. The stated rates apply to the supported services --- the announcement does not include an offer for trading assets from Bitcoin.

The current list of compatible blockchains includes Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, Arbitrum, and Base, but Bitcoin is not among them. For holders of Ordinals and Runes, this means that the mere launch of the app does not confirm the possibility of selling their assets through OpenSea.

Magic Eden Previously Exited the Bitcoin Market

The appeals come after changes that limited the offerings of one of the platforms serving Bitcoin collectors. According to the schedule, Magic Eden ceased support for the Bitcoin market on March 9, 2026. The shutdown of remaining Bitcoin-related services, including APIs for BTC and Runes, was set for March 27. The company retained the Solana market.

The withdrawal of such an operator helps to understand collectors' interest in entering another recognizable platform. Potential integration with OpenSea would provide them with another venue to list and purchase assets. However, its significance would depend on the scope of support and the actual activity of buyers.

What Does This Mean for Rare Sats Collectors?

Ordinals, Runes, and rare sats belong to the Bitcoin ecosystem but describe different things. In discussions about new trading platforms, they can easily be confused with each other.

ConceptWhat is of interest?
Ordinals InscriptionsContent, such as an image or text, recorded in Bitcoin and linked to a specific satoshi.
RunesTokens issued and transferred via Bitcoin transactions. Units of the same rune are interchangeable.
Rare satsSpecific satoshis distinguished by collectors due to their origin, history, or number.

The mechanisms of inscriptions and Runes are described in the Ordinals project documentation. Collectors' interest in satoshis themselves may exist independently of any additional content recorded on them.

For example, a satoshi with a palindromic number may interest a collector even without an associated image. This difference and the basic categories are explained in a guide describing what rare sats are and where their value comes from.

Therefore, if integration is announced, its details will need to be checked. Supporting collections of inscriptions does not yet imply the availability of a separate market for satoshis with features such as vintage or palindrome. There has not yet been such an announcement in the reviewed OpenSea materials.
