GM Signs $4.5 Billion Procurement Deal
General Motors (GM) has signed a procurement contract worth $4.5 billion to prepare for potential supply chain disruptions of key components. This contract serves as a safety measure to prevent production stoppages due to parts shortages and involves Procura Auto Parts, JPMorgan, and Banco Santander. Procura Auto Parts will provide funding to prepay suppliers on behalf of GM, which will repay the funds after using the parts. The repayment deadline is set for July 2029, and the contract is non-cancellable. Costs will vary depending on the use of parts, with interest and premiums added to the used components. While GM has not disclosed the names of the parts involved in the contract, it emphasized the importance of stable procurement. Unlike GM's previous strategy of building inventory directly, this contract combines external suppliers with financial institutions to consider supply stability and financial burden. It remains unconfirmed whether Korean parts suppliers are included.
