Hong Kong Opens the Door to XRP for Individual Investors, Leading Asia in Expanding Regulated Markets
In Hong Kong, individual investors can now directly access XRP from a regulated environment.
On July 29, 2026 (Wednesday), OSL Digital Securities began spot trading of XRP for individual investors in Hong Kong. This marks the first time a licensed exchange approved by the SFC (Securities and Futures Commission) has offered XRP to general investors in Hong Kong.
Previously, individual investors in Hong Kong often relied on overseas exchanges operating outside the local licensing system to purchase XRP. With this new initiative, a regulated new entry point has been opened for converting fiat currencies, including the Hong Kong dollar, into XRP.
Expansion from Professional Investors to the Individual Market
OSL offers the XRP/USD pair through Flash Trade. In OTC (over-the-counter) trading, it supports XRP/USD and XRP/HKD. Users can deposit and withdraw XRP through XRPL, which is also used for transaction settlements.
XRP has now joined Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Solana (SOL) as the fourth cryptocurrency available for trading by individual investors on OSL. Since it can be traded directly from fiat currencies, XRP can be purchased without the need for exchanges into stablecoins or unregulated peer-to-peer transactions.
OSL has obtained Type 1 and Type 7 licenses from the SFC and is also registered under Hong Kong's anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regulations. According to the company, its customer asset custody system is backed by insurance coverage of $1 billion (approximately ¥160.7 billion).
The company had listed XRP in December 2025, but at that time, it was only available to institutional investors and high-net-worth individuals meeting certain criteria. The subsequent expansion to include general investors indicates that Hong Kong is gradually opening its regulated market.
Hong Kong's Step Reflects Progress in the Asian Market
The listing does not change the circulation or value of XRP itself, nor does it guarantee immediate effects on its price. However, the ability to purchase, hold, and transfer through a licensed exchange lowers the barriers for new investors to participate. This could enhance trading liquidity and recognition, and serve as a long-term factor supporting reliability due to being handled by a licensed exchange.
XRP has seen its spot ETF record inflows for eight consecutive weeks, with a total inflow amount reaching approximately $1.49 billion (around ¥239.4 billion). Financial uses on XRPL, including RLUSD and tokenization of real-world assets, are expanding, continuing to develop not only as an investment target but also as financial infrastructure.
Meanwhile, discussions surrounding the CLARITY bill, which aims to define the classification and supervisory framework for cryptocurrencies in the United States, have stalled. While the U.S. continues to develop a national-level framework, Hong Kong is steadily increasing the number of assets handled by licensed exchanges.
The start of individual trading for XRP is not just news about the addition of one asset. It signifies another step forward in Asia's efforts to expand the use of cryptocurrencies in a regulated environment, built on a clear licensing system.
