Joseph Lubin, co-founder of Ethereum and Consensys, contends that advancements in artificial intelligence will not concentrate wealth and power but will instead promote diversity in economic participation through decentralized protocols like Ethereum. In a post on X, Lubin criticized the essay "Commanding Heights," which views the AI era through existing centralized power structures and assumes ownership of core infrastructure is necessary. He suggested that as decentralized protocols gain traction, large corporations may fragment into smaller entities, allowing individuals to directly organize AI agents and others for economic activities. Lubin emphasized that Ethereum offers a foundation for coordination independent of central institutions. He noted that while governments might adopt cryptocurrencies and develop their own DeFi systems, global DeFi will maintain advantages in speed, liquidity, and innovation. The 145-page "Commanding Heights," published on Oct. 29, argues that a few actors controlling core economic infrastructure could monopolize economic gains, even with widespread AI adoption.
