Solana Launches Digital Payment Platform for Institutional Investors in Collaboration with JP Morgan
Solana Foundation Launches Digital Payment Platform for Institutional Investors
The Solana Foundation has officially announced Solana DvP (Delivery versus Payment) as a new generation open-source payment tool for financial institutions.
Until now, institutions settling onchain have typically relied on bespoke smart contracts.
Solana DvP gives them a shared, open standard for atomic delivery-versus-payment, with input from J.P. Morgan on securities settlement practices 🧵

In the past, institutions conducting on-chain settlements have typically depended on custom smart contracts. Solana DvP provides a shared open standard for atomic delivery versus payment, incorporating insights from J.P. Morgan on securities settlement practices.
This system is built with insights from J.P. Morgan (J.P. Morgan). By settling tokenized assets and payments simultaneously within a single blockchain transaction, it aims to significantly reduce the settlement process from several days to just a few seconds.
Mechanism of Solana DvP through Atomic Settlement
In transactions by institutional investors, individual smart contracts have often been used, requiring 1 to 2 days for settlement due to intermediaries such as clearinghouses, transfer agencies, and custodians.
This traditional process has always carried counterparty risk, where one party could complete the process while the other could not. To address these challenges, Solana DvP employs atomic transactions (indivisible sequences of operations).
Since payments and asset transfers are executed simultaneously, if either process fails, both settlements will be void. This allows for finality of transactions to be achieved in seconds rather than days, significantly reducing the inherent risks in financial markets.
Establishing Open Standards with J.P. Morgan's Insights
In developing this program, J.P. Morgan provided specialized insights and requirements regarding securities settlement practices. However, their involvement is purely advisory, and they do not design, develop, or operate the system.
Rhodel D'Souza, head of J.P. Morgan's Market Digital Assets division, emphasizes that a common open standard that does not increase settlement risks or counterparty exposure in large-scale operations is essential infrastructure for participants in the institutional investor market.
This program is published under a permissive MIT open-source license, and external audits have been completed.
Regulatory Compliance and Management Features with Token-2022
Solana DvP supports both traditional SPL tokens and the Token-2022 standard. This incorporates advanced management features required by regulated issuers and institutional investors.
〇Key Features :
Pausable tokens that can halt transfers in emergencies, transfer hooks that programmatically control asset movement, and permanent delegates are included.
〇Limitations :
On the other hand, some extended features such as non-transferable tokens, interest-bearing functions, and transfer fees are not supported and will be rejected during transaction creation or settlement. Additionally, this system does not have order book or matching functions, so eligibility checks must be implemented through the token's control features.
Security Audit and Future Prospects
An external security review of Solana DvP by Cantina reported several findings, but all major issues, including four categorized as moderate risk, have already been addressed, making it ready for operational use with actual funds.
Currently, the Solana Foundation is seeking design partners and early participants for full-scale operational deployment. Furthermore, there are plans to develop privacy features to ensure confidentiality in institutional investor transactions as a necessary requirement for broader adoption in the financial market. There are high expectations for this new common infrastructure to support collaboration among diverse payment agents.
