Stable's Visa Direct Integration Brings USDT to Bank Accounts in 195 Countries

Stable has completed its Visa Direct integration, connecting StableChain to the Visa real-time payment network. This allows USDT funds to arrive in a bank account without the recipient needing to use a crypto wallet.

Key Points

  • Stable's Visa Direct integration and what it changes for payments
    • How real-time payouts work
  • StableChain, the Layer-1 blockchain built around USDT
    • Sub-second finality and denomination in USDT
  • The previous bridge between crypto and bank accounts
  • The STABLE token: governance, staking, and no gas
    • How staking works with StableBFT

Key Points

  • Stable has integrated Visa Direct into the StableChain infrastructure, linking on-chain rails in USDT to bank accounts and mobile wallets in over 195 countries.
  • StableChain is a native Layer-1 blockchain for USDT, with its mainnet launched in December 2025: gas and payments are denominated and settled in USDT.
  • The network aims for sub-second transaction finality, and with Visa Direct, businesses can pay recipients without them needing a crypto wallet.
  • The STABLE token has a fixed supply of 100 billion units and is reserved for governance and staking, not for gas or as a medium of exchange.
  • Those staking STABLE earn a share of the gas revenue generated from USDT transactions through the delegated Proof of Stake consensus mechanism, StableBFT.

Stable's Visa Direct Integration and What It Changes for Payments

The Visa Direct integration announced by Stable transforms StableChain into a two-way bridge between blockchain rails and traditional finance. On-chain activity in stablecoins can now exit in real-time through one of the largest payment networks in the world, without complicated intermediary steps for those receiving the funds.

How Real-Time Payouts Work

Thanks to Visa Direct, StableChain connects to a network that covers billions of endpoints in over 195 countries, a reach that no autonomous crypto network could replicate on its own. Instead of building banking agreements country by country, Stable has directly connected to the infrastructure that Visa already manages on a global scale: a significant shortcut for a Layer-1 blockchain that launched its mainnet just in December 2025.

For businesses using StableChain, the practical advantage is immediate: they can deposit funds directly into a recipient's bank account or mobile wallet in real-time, without that person needing to own a crypto wallet or understand how blockchain settlement works. This eliminates one of the main frictions of crypto payouts, the notion that the recipient must be blockchain-savvy. With this integration, that is no longer necessary.

StableChain, the Layer-1 Blockchain Built Around USDT

StableChain is a Layer-1 blockchain designed around a single principle: everything on the network passes through USDT. This is not a secondary detail: it determines how fees work, how payments are settled, and how quickly transactions are confirmed.

The network launched its mainnet in December 2025 with a rather specific thesis. Instead of a separate native token for gas, as most Layer-1 blockchains do, StableChain denominates gas fees directly in USDT. Payments on the network are also settled in USDT, without passing through an intermediate asset.

Sub-Second Finality and Denomination in USDT

StableChain aims for sub-second transaction finality, a performance goal designed to make on-chain transfers in USDT nearly instantaneous, instead of the multi-minute confirmation windows typical of older blockchains. Combined with the connection to Visa Direct, this speed is what allows a payout to move from on-chain settlement to the recipient's bank account or mobile wallet without noticeable delays.

The Previous Bridge Between Crypto and Bank Accounts

The connection between StableChain and Visa Direct comes after a step that Stable had already taken. On September 18, about two weeks before the announcement regarding Visa Direct, the company had already allowed wallet holders on Polygon with USDT and PYUSD to send funds directly to bank accounts. In that previous agreement, users retained custody of their assets until the transaction was actually executed, the same principle that is now being carried forward through Visa Direct: moving value in stablecoins to traditional accounts while keeping users in control for as long as possible.

The STABLE Token: Governance, Staking, and No Gas

The STABLE token plays a different role compared to the native tokens of most other Layer-1 networks, and this difference matters for those who want to understand how the network is truly incentivized. Instead of functioning as gas or as a payment currency, STABLE is built exclusively around governance and staking.

STABLE has a fixed supply of 100 billion tokens. It does not pay gas fees on the network and is not used as a medium of exchange: both of these tasks are assigned to USDT. This separation is intentional: StableChain keeps its transactional economy anchored to a stablecoin, while STABLE remains reserved exclusively for governance and staking rights of the network.

How Staking Works with StableBFT

Those who hold STABLE can stake it to participate in the network's consensus mechanism, called StableBFT, which operates on a delegated Proof of Stake model. The incentive is tangible: those who stake earn a share of the gas revenue generated from USDT transactions across the chain. In practice, the value of staking is directly linked to the volume of USDT activity passing through StableChain: the more transactions processed by the network, the more revenue there is to distribute among those who have staked their tokens.

It is worth pausing to consider why this matters in the broader discussion about stablecoins. Major payment operators have been profiting for years precisely because they are the default rail between banks, merchants, and consumers. A blockchain capable of settling in USDT in less than a second and then transferring funds directly into Visa's banking network, without the recipient needing a crypto wallet, reduces the distance between on-chain settlement and the traditional payment infrastructure that businesses already trust. For StableChain, the Visa Direct integration is not so much about proving that a new payment rail exists, but about demonstrating that this rail can connect to what billions of people and merchants already use every day.
