UK Inflation Rate Rises to Five-Month High, CPI Increases 3.1% Year-on-Year
On September 16, the UK Office for National Statistics released data showing that the inflation rate in the UK has risen for the second consecutive month due to soaring gasoline prices. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for August increased by 3.1% year-on-year, marking the highest rise since March, up from 2.9% in July. This result aligns with the median forecast of economists, while the Bank of England had predicted an increase of 2.8%. The acceleration in inflation is primarily attributed to rising gasoline prices caused by the conflict in Iran, as well as increased airfare prices during the summer holiday period.
