Zcash NU7 Upgrade Testnet Launched, Mainnet Activation Planned for November 5
Zcash activated the NU7 network upgrade on the testnet on October 5, with plans for the mainnet upgrade on November 5. The testnet block explorer shows that NU7 completed its block at 18:21:45 UTC on October 4, confirming its official launch. NU7 will reduce the target block interval for Zcash from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, disable version 4 transactions, and introduce a network sustainability mechanism that allocates part of the transaction fees for future block rewards. After the deactivation of version 4 transactions, ZEC stored in the old Sprout privacy pool will become unusable, and users must transfer relevant funds before NU7 is fully activated. Zcash developers will decide on October 20 whether to proceed with the mainnet upgrade and determine the activation height based on the performance of the testnet, with the target date for mainnet activation set for November 5.
