Zhang Kaifu: AI Enters Self-Improvement Phase, Expected to Experience Exponential Growth in the Next One to Two Years
At the "AI × New Finance - Innovation Global Tour: Hong Kong Station and Yangtze River Stars Program Launch Conference," former Alibaba Vice President Zhang Kaifu stated that the core change in AI over the past year is the shift of models from chat tools to Agents capable of continuously completing complex tasks. Zhang pointed out that the next phase to watch is AI's involvement in its own research, training, and reasoning optimization. He believes that this "recursive self-improvement" has already appeared in some studies. If AI can continuously optimize models and training efficiency like top researchers in the future, the pace of technological advancement may experience exponential growth again, making the next one to two years a critical variable in AI development. As model capabilities improve, AI Agents will shift from passive responses to being online long-term and actively executing tasks, thereby driving growth in infrastructure demands such as cloud computing, identity verification, and cybersecurity.
