Banks Monitor Crypto Transfers, No Fixed Limit for Blocking

By: www.crypto-insiders.nl|2026/09/19 07:01:50

When transferring euros from a cryptocurrency exchange to a Dutch bank account, there is no fixed limit at which banks automatically intervene. Banks assess transactions based on risk factors and may ask questions about the source of the funds. Since July 1, 2026, FIU-Netherlands can suspend a transaction for up to five working days in special cases. A deposit of €50,000 may trigger an investigation, but it is not a magical threshold; lower amounts can also raise questions. Banks investigate the source of funds from crypto services when a risk indicator is activated. Proof of previous deposits and transactions can help demonstrate the origin of the funds. Banks determine how much information is needed, and a payment from crypto does not automatically mean that money laundering is involved. In the case of unusual transactions, a bank may report this to FIU-Netherlands, which does not mean that the transaction is criminal. For crypto investors, it is important to be able to demonstrate the source of the original funds and the buildup of their crypto assets even years later.
