British IT Specialist Demands Refund of 325 BTC from BitMEX
Lewis Barber, a British IT specialist, lost 324.8 Bitcoins on the BitMEX exchange, amounting to approximately €23.8 million. He is demanding a refund, claiming that the exchange did not have the proper authorization to offer him services. Barber conducted nearly 2,300 transactions between 2018 and 2022, over a thousand of which ended in losses. His lawyers argue that BitMEX offered products that required authorization from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), despite not having such authorization. If the court rules in Barber's favor, the contracts could be deemed non-binding, opening the way for him to recover his Bitcoins or receive compensation. BitMEX has previously faced issues with regulators, and this new lawsuit comes at a difficult time for the exchange, which ceased trading a few weeks ago.
