The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is investigating allegations of insider trading related to the prediction market platform Polymarket. The CFTC is reassessing whether Polymarket complied with a regulatory agreement from 2022, examining procedures for location verification to block U.S. users from accessing foreign platforms and advertising activities. In 2022, Polymarket was fined $1.4 million for offering unregistered event contracts and agreed to block U.S. users from trading abroad, but allegations of circumvention through VPNs have emerged. This investigation is linked to insider trading allegations against U.S. Special Forces member Gannon Ken Van Dyke, who reportedly used confidential information from a Maduro capture operation to place bets totaling approximately $33,934 on Polymarket, earning $409,881 in profits. The court has denied Van Dyke's motion to dismiss the charges, and the trial is set to begin on December 7. The U.S. Department of Defense has issued guidelines prohibiting military personnel from trading based on unofficial information.
