The European Union has imposed sanctions on one individual and five companies linked to Russia's military-industrial complex and the production of drone components. The decision comes amid an escalation of Russian attacks on Ukraine, including strikes on Kyiv in early July. The companies affected include those from the ABS Electro group, which develops electronic and radio-electronic components for Russian drones such as "Shahed" and "Geran," as well as automated control systems for Russia's energy sector. Irina Kharisova, the chairwoman of the ABS Electro group, has been added to the sanctions list. The sanctions include asset freezes, a ban on providing economic resources, and travel restrictions to the EU for individuals on the list. The new restrictions are part of the sanctions regime for actions threatening Ukraine's territorial integrity. The European Council has reaffirmed its support for Ukraine's independence and its readiness to increase pressure on Russia.
