Grayscale Bitcoin Miners ETF Renamed to Grayscale AI Compute ETF
Grayscale Investments has renamed the Grayscale Bitcoin Miners ETF (MNRS) to the Grayscale AI Compute ETF (GCPU), now focused on companies related to artificial intelligence computing infrastructure. GCPU tracks the Indxx High Performance Computing Index, which includes companies that purchase data centers and provide them with electricity to operate AI models. Previously, the fund was linked to the Indxx Bitcoin Miners Index. The updated fund will not directly own digital assets and will not replicate the dynamics of any cryptocurrency. Up to 50% of the GCPU portfolio may consist of companies related to AI, cloud services, and graphics processors. The remaining portion of the portfolio will consist of mining companies adapting their capacities for AI. Grayscale plans to review the index composition quarterly. The company points to a shortage of infrastructure for processing AI workloads, with the amount of available space in North American data centers reaching a historical low. Building new data centers can take up to five years, and capital expenditures for creating infrastructure for AI could exceed $1 trillion per year.
