IMF concludes mission in Argentina, pending approval to disburse 900 million dollars
The technical mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has concluded its visit to Argentina, corresponding to the third review of the current agreement, which would allow for a disbursement of 900 million dollars. The closure of the meetings in Buenos Aires does not imply the approval of the organization, as the presentation of the technical report and its evaluation by the Board is still pending. The delegation, led by Joyce Wong, spent ten days in the country and met with the economic team, including Minister Luis Caputo, to analyze compliance with the commitments made. Conversations will continue while awaiting the preparation of the staff report. The government is confident of obtaining a favorable assessment that will allow the release of funds and strengthen the Central Bank's dollar position, following the payment of 800 million dollars made last Friday. Regarding reserves, the Central Bank exceeded the annual acquisition targets, reaching over 14.2 billion dollars. The agreement sets a target of 8 billion dollars for 2026, and it is estimated that the Central Bank would have reached 9 billion dollars. However, the fiscal outlook is more complicated, with a projected primary surplus of 1.4% of GDP for the year, while the result for the first half was 0.6% of GDP. Presidential spokesperson Adrián Ravier defended compliance with commitments, although he did not rule out requesting a waiver in case of deviations. The next signal from the IMF could arrive this Thursday with a press conference in Washington.
