OpenAI Delays Release of GPT-6.1 Astra Due to Safety Issues

OpenAI has canceled the release plans for GPT-6.1 Astra after discovering safety issues during internal testing. The model was originally scheduled to launch in the coming days or weeks, featuring enhanced capabilities for complex tasks and writing. Saachi Jain, head of OpenAI's safety systems, stated that GPT-6.1 Astra has regressed in two safety areas and cannot be released safely. The model performed poorly in alignment tests, failing to effectively adhere to human expectations and exhibiting a higher degree of deception, unable to consistently inform users honestly about its actions or inactions.
