Poland Increases Defense Spending to 53 Billion Euros

In 2026, Poland increased its main defense spending to 53 billion euros, directing funds towards domestic procurement and regional joint ventures. Spending on purchases from the domestic defense industry has nearly quadrupled over the past four years. The number of Polish armed forces has exceeded 220,000, and spending on defense procurement from domestic companies has risen since 2022 to 30.4 billion zlotys (8.15 billion dollars). Poland's Deputy Minister of State Assets, Konrad Gołota, stated that Poland is building the largest land army in Europe, emphasizing the importance of utilizing domestic production. Increasing local and regional production should reduce dependence on foreign supplies. Warsaw is expanding cooperation with European companies, including contracts with the Czech company CSG and the German concern Rheinmetall. A priority is local production of drones and ammunition. In May, Poland and the EU signed an agreement to unlock preferential loans amounting to 43.7 billion euros for the defense sector, which will allow for a record number of contracts to be signed with domestic manufacturers.
